The Beauty of Letter Writing (Essay version)
What would you feel if you received a handwritten letter? You might have never received one before, so let me tell you, it’s one of the most touching moments you’ll have. Especially with how messages are sent nowadays, it’s most likely that you’ll never receive one besides for occasions. So what if you make letters for others instead?
The art of letter writing is clearly not as big as it was before, but that’s also what makes it so special. Back in the day there were scribes and messengers, even birds were trained. Now it’s a one man job, it’s intimate, personal, and it will show the other person you took time and effort just to send this message to them.
Sure you can speak to them directly, or send a digital message. But there’s more beauty to handwritten messages. Handwritten messages provide you with the gift of time, in our fast-paced world, this gives us an opportunity to slow down. Unlike skimming like one would do in front of a screen, letters are read carefully, taken to heart, and appreciated.
You will be making a historical artifact that offers both emotional and physical value to the receiver. They can hold it, smell it, store it, and display it. How many texts do you receive per day, most of them deleted, buried, forgotten, never to be seen again. A tangible paper copy lives in real life, begging you to hold onto it, reread it for years to come, and paint a picture with every word. The letter and the thoughts stand still in time—to hold onto what life was like all that time ago.
"To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart."
